Katie Baker is the executive director of Coolmunda Organic Olives, located in Inglewood, Queensland.
Coolmunda Organic Olives was established in 1989 by Katie's parents, Gesine and Colin Owen, when they started planting around 500 olive trees per year on their 400-hectare property.
Katie's parents had a passion for living sustainably and farming regeneratively since their first plantings. Their eco-friendly practices made getting organically certified in 2005 the natural next step.
Their organic practices include promoting biodiversity by growing a polyculture, preventing soil erosion, protecting wildlife, stream banks and watersheds, and avoiding the use of synthetic or artificially produced insecticides, herbicides, fertilisers and GMOs.
When Katie took over the business, she continued her parents' passion for organic produce and sustainable farming practices. The vision of the operation today is to maintain a financially viable agribusiness grounded in regenerative farming practices while improving the health of the land.
