Jody Brown is a grazier from Longreach in Central West Queensland and, together with her parents, she has implemented regenerative practices on their stations. When she embarked on a mission to source peer-to-peer information about alternative farming practices in semi-arid environments and extensive pastoral zones, she not only found the information she needed, but also forged a community prepared to share their knowledge and with a thirst to learn more.
In recent years Jody has used her experience in digital storytelling to meet, interview and create lasting video contributions to share knowledge with others on a similar journey.
Jody says there are a lot more inland Australians making the transition than realised and she has loved being part of creating a community of these like-minded landholders. She has been instrumental in creating Regenerative Rangelands events and at the time of writing this profile, she was beginning to turn the unofficial grass roots community event into an official not-for-profit group.
Jody is an advocate for regenerating land at the pace that suits the landholder and says that encouraging and empowering others to start that journey is more of a priority than achieving perfection on a small number of properties. 'If more people were a little bit more open about that and not expecting perfection or massive changes overnight we might have a few more people putting their hands up and saying they're making that transition,' she says.
