Georgina Lamond is a solicitor at the forefront of the carbon farming industry; she has been reviewing and advising on agreements for landholders since 2021.
Georgina grew up on the New South Wales North Coast and spent much of her education in Brisbane. After years working in cities, a desire to have a rewarding career in the country where she could make a greater difference in her community saw her change career trajectory. After studying commerce and business management at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Georgina started her career in advertising, brand strategy and market research. However, she went on to change professions, studying law at Queensland University of Technology, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) in 2019.
Georgina's strong interest in commercial transactions and business operations, combined with her earlier career experience, has placed her well in the emerging industry of carbon farming in Australia. After six years living in Sydney, as well as time living in Perth and France, Georgina and her family have settled in the regional town of Armidale, where she is a solicitor with Moin Morris Schaefer.
Today, she works on reviewing and advising on agreements for landholders, specifically those who are embarking on carbon projects. At Moin Morris Schaefer, they've seen an increase in the number of people seeking legal advice for carbon farming projects, even within the past year. Georgina says that while it's growing in popularity, due to the length of carbon projects and the system's newness, many of the legal concerns have yet to be tested, which is why it's essential to seek legal advice when starting on these journeys.
