Growing up in northern Brisbane, Claire can't claim the 'I was raised on a farm' card. However, her passion for country life was alive and well from an early age. Having travelled around rural Australia as a child and teen and with a number of rural relatives dotted all over Australia, she soon fell in love with the genuine and resilient nature of the people in our rural communities.
Opting to study science at the University of Queensland, she soon realised that she wasn't suited to a career in research and instead decided the journalism path was a better choice.
Fortunately, a journalism internship and an agricultural research project in her honours year were enough for Claire to snag a job as a journalist at South Australia's rural masthead Stock Journal, where she worked for three years.
In 2022, she co-founded Hoedowns For Country Towns, a nine-month charity bootscooting trip around Australia with the aim of bringing rural communities together after a tough few years. Claire's freelance journalism kicked off during her year on the road.
Now settled in Adelaide, she is still loving working as a freelancer, writing for a variety of agricultural publications and rural businesses. She believes agriculture is the most important industry of all and feels honoured to be able to share the stories of those doing wonderful things on the land.
Work aside, she is a diehard West Coast Eagles fan, hits the netball and tennis courts regularly, and if she were to go on Hard Quiz, The Castle would be her expert topic.
